Snapshots: Cover Reveal

Oooo how good does this look? My writer friend Patricia Lynne is getting ready to publish her new book, Snapshots. I think it sounds really intriguing, what do you think?

Blogging, Writing Posts and Blog Tours

The hardest thing I find about being an indie author is all the promo you have to do. I know mainstream authors also do loads of promo, but at least they have a whole team of trained PR & editorial staff to assist and advise.

Currently, as I'm sure you've noticed from my last posts, I am arranging the Witchcraft Blog Tour. Luckily I have made lots of blogger friends over the last few months and had contacts I could go to from doing my last 'Witchblood' tour, so I have the blogs and dates all sorted, which is great.

What isn't so great is that now I need to come up with five new ideas for guest posts! Three of the bloggers are writing reviews for me, which is great and necessary for the tour, but the other five either haven't yet had time to read Witchblood, or have read & liked WB, but haven't got time in the next month to read Witchcraft, and I understand because their reading lists are twice as long as mine, and I currently have a small pile of paperbacks by my bed, along with 3 pages of kindle downloads!

So back to the guest post drama... As I have already done one tour I can't re-use the same material, I need to come up with new ideas. So I thought I'd do a follow-up interview with Daniel, this time. What do you think?

I'm also hoping one blog will give me some interview questions to answer, which leaves me with another three posts. Another idea I had was a post based on London, as in the WB tour I did a post all about Manchester, with photographic locations etc. As Jess does end up in London in Witchcraft I thought this would be a fun follow-up post.

Another idea I had was a post about love triangles in YA fiction. I didn't intend on having a love triangle, and I certainly don't see it as that. Jess is maybe messed up in WB, but in Witchcraft she sorts her head out, but I think it could make an interesting article.

What do you guys think? Is there anything you would like me to write about?

Hi, I'm Emma. I am happily married with two lovely children. I have always loved reading and writing and after much debate decided to self publish my debut novel Witchblood in January 2012, the sequel Witchcraft will be published in June. I began writing paranormal YA fiction after aquiring an obsessive love of supernatural teen novels...yes I'm a Twilight fan...I decided to write my own supernatural story based here in Manchester in the UK, near where I live and grew up. Except I couldn't decide whether to write about vampires or witches, so I chose both! In the High Peak it's often dark, windy, cold and very very wet... and easy to get inspiration!

So here are my 10 favourite questions I have taken from previous blog interviews & my answers:


1.    Tell us a little bit about you, Emma?
Well, I’m a 35 year old mum of two gorgeous kiddies, but sometimes I still feel 20! I have been a bookworm as long as I can remember & started school being able to read. I’ve wanted to be a writer since my teens, but I never put the work in, and consequently never got past one chapter! I’m a dreamer and love to lose myself in a book or movie…or just my own dreams. Oh yeah…and I love purple!

2.    In the spirit of Twitter, can you tell us about your book in 140 characters or less?
Murdered girl gets saved by, then turned into a vampire.  Fighting to keep her soul, control her desires & new found powers, she tries to solve the mystery of her birth!

3.    Can you tell me a little bit about Witchblood and what inspired it?
I became inspired to write Witchblood after reading the Twilight Saga, and then developing an addiction to all paranormal fiction, mainly YA. I thought there would be a niche in the market for a YA series set in the UK because at the time there weren't any published UK vampire series I knew of. I wanted to meld my favourite paranormal genres and have both witches and vampires in my series!

4.    Witchblood is the first instalment of your YA paranormal series. Have you planned it as a Trilogy?
Yes, originally I planned it as a trilogy, with book 2 being Witchcraft and lastly Witchlove, but last summer I started writing a new story, which ties into Witchblood. So once I have written books 2 & 3 I will probably write that next. 

5.    Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover?
I like them all! But hardback would be my least favourite because of the unwieldy nature of the beast... I like to read in the bath, and in bed so hardbacks aren't good for my ridiculously skinny wrists!

6.    What are your Top 3 paranormal YA series?
This is a tough one because there are so many! I am going to split them into Mainstream & Indie! I would have to have Twilight because those books started this whole journey. So for Mainstream I'd have Twilight Saga, The Hunger Games (although I wasn't as keen on Mockingjay) & then it would be a tie between Vampire Academy & Aprilynne Pike's Wings! My favourite indie YA paranormal series would be, Peachville High Demons, Pyxis & The Toad Witch Series by Christiana Miller.

7.    What do you like to do when you're not writing?
When I'm not writing, editing or promoting I like to spend some time with my family, plan holidays to hot places, bake cakes and of course read!

8.   What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author?
So far I have been lucky and only received one 2 star review for Witchblood, but it was tough reading it. Even though I disagreed and felt like she hadn’t read the book properly, I tried to find something constructive that I can use to grow with. I always read my reviews and try and take on board how readers are feeling. Sometimes they make really useful point and a lot of points I have kept in my head whilst I have written Witchcraft.

9.What has been the best compliment?
I have many amazing reviews I could choose for compliments and they surprise and motivate me every day, but recently a fellow author said that, ‘I think this book contained one of the best vampire transformations I've ever read!’ That made me very happy, and only yesterday an American book blogger at: http://the-avidreader.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/top-ten-tuesday-9.html put me at No3 in her Top 10 Favourite Authors...that is the ultimate compliment!

10.   What can we expect from you next?
Well, I have just finished writing Witchcraft, the sequel to Witchblood. Next I will be proof reading and editing and it will be published on 25^th June. After that I will be writing the remaining story in the trilogy, but I haven't decided ye whether to call it WitchLove or WitchHunt!!

This post isn't about me, the books I'm writing or the books I'm reading. Todays blog is dedicated to two lovely book blogging friends who are both celebrating their blogoversarys today!

Witchcraft is finished!

Let the editing commence!

Well, my deadline was Sunday and I finished 2 days early. Hooray! So I can have a free weekend with my family instead. The first draft of Witchcraft has come in at 70,313 words, 21 chapters and an epilogue that will leave you reeling.

My lovely grammar obsessed mother will be proof-reading for me next week, and then my Beta readers take over. The final month before publication will consist of me making any necessary alterations and edits...lets hope there won't be too many!

On another amazing note I have had another five reviews on Goodreads this week, four of them are 5 stars and one is 4 stars. I am so happy right now! AND Smashwords have updated last months sales figure and I found an extra 47 Barnes & Noble sales I didn't know I had!

For my local fans and friends I have been contacted today to run a competiton on my blog to win a family ticket to all the Merlin Blackpool Tower attractions, which is an amazing prize. So keep a look out for that. I think I'll run it next month when the Witchcraft tour kicks off.

Back in the Twenty-First Century...

Well after what seemed like a LOT longer than a week I have my broadband connection back! It is only when you are disconnected from the internet that you realise just how reliant and addicted you have become. I swear if I didn't have a smartphone to check into Facebook occasionally I would have broken out in cold sweats!

The timing was typically unsuitable as it was the same week as my big cover reveal for Witchcraft, so I hope eveyone got to see it and didn't mind me not being around! To anyone who has emailed or messaged me and not had a reply, I'm sorry... but if you haven't heard back by now it's probably lost in cyber space somewhere... try me again, now I'm back online!

The good news is that whilst I haven't been able to get online, I have been able to load up Word, and I've been busy writing my final chapters. The current word count for Witchcraft is around the 67,000 mark and I expect to be done with the first draft by the end of the week.

The day is here! I have been really looking forward to releasing my cover for Witchcraft. I know some of you weren't so keen on the Witchblood cover, some thought it too gory... but I hope you all love this one! It fits with the story perfectly too...
